Three Surprises Shake Up Early Races

11/24/10 - Two stunning upsets have left three teams in unexpected situations in the early going of the 2010/11 PASL-Pro season.

On Friday the Detroit Waza went into Mockingbird Valley Sports Center and came away with a most-unexpected 6-4 victory over the Louisville Lightning. The fortified Lightning were expected to be strong contenders for an Eastern Division crown, but missed chances and missing players have them sitting at 0-2 with a grueling four game stretch coming up against the San Diego Sockers, Revolucion Tijuana, and the Cincinnati Kings.

The California Cougars equaled Louisville's 0-2 home start, blowing a 6-3 lead on Friday to Tijuana and losing 11-7. While the Cougars are Lightning are in 0-2 holes, it's Tijuana opening eyes after a 2-0 start with wins over California and a 13-6 home victory over the Tacoma Stars.

Player of the Week

Edgar Lemus, Revolucion Tijuana

Lemus took the concept of a natual hat trick and expanded on it, scoring four straight goals against the Cougars on Friday, turning a 6-3 deficit into a 7-6 Tijuana lead. On Sunday he added one goal and one assist in Tijuana's 13-6 win over Tacoma and scored the eventual game-winning goal.

Lemus, 24, likes to keep his teammates loose. "He likes to joke a lot," said Tijuana forward Eduardo Velez. "He might push us in the pool or cut our hair when we're sleeping, so we have to watch out."

Velez expects there is more to come from Lemus. "He is very offensive minded, but very smart and he knows how to assist as well as score."

KICK STARTERS - Conversations you should be having about the PASL-Pro

Hughes-N-Howes

The two Hs with MVPs on their resume are still piling up the points. Cincinnati's Jeff Hughes has a league-leading nine goals and 10 points and Tacoma's Greg Howes also has 10 points on five goals and five assists.

Allen Eller, Ohio Vortex

Ohio lost their second game, 9-4 to Cincinnati to fall to 1-1, but Eller pulled another hat trick to up his goal total to eight.

Sockers, Kings Home Openers Set Franchise Attendance Records

The San Diego Sockers raised their 11th championship banner, and the current franchise set a new attendance record with 3,064 filling up Del Mar Arena on Saturday. The Kings also easily beat their best all-time attendance with 1,312 fans in their first game at Cincinnati Gardens.

Home is Where the Wins Are

Even though Cincinnati moved to a new home arena this season, they kept one tradition intact: winning. The Kings 10-3 win over Detroit pushed their all-time home record to 17-0.

Now You See Them, Now You Don't

Tacoma had to feel pretty good when Ian Weinberg scored a third quarter goal to cut Tijuana's lead to just 4-3 in a road game against a tough opponent. But in the blink of an eye Tijuana scored four goals in 89 seconds and never looked back, turning the 4-3 game into an 8-3 blowout en route to a 13-6 win.
