The Winston-Salem Parrots of the Atlantic Coast Hockey League today announced that General Manager and Assistant Coach, Darryl Noren, will become Head Coach of the ACHL club effective immediately. Noren, a 34 year-old native of White Lake, Michigan, replaces Bruce Ramsay who resigned today to pursue coaching opportunities with teams closer to his home. The Parrots had only won two of their last ten games under Bruce Ramsay.
Darryl Noren has been with the Parrots organization since the beginning of the season; first serving as the team's Assistant Coach and then as the team's General Manager when the Parrots moved to Winston-Salem in mid-December. Noren will be behind the Parrots bench on Friday Night @ 7:30PM when the Parrots host the Jacksonville Barracudas at the Joel Coliseum Annex. Noren will also be available to meet with the media on Friday morning at 10:00AM prior to the Parrots morning practice at the Joel Coliseum Annex.
Darryl Noren played ten years professionally in the IHL, AHL, ECHL, UHL, and CHL. He is the second leading scorer in the history of the ECHL. Before joining the Parrots organization this year, he served as Assistant Coach for Pensacola in the ECHL during the 2001/02 season.
The Parrots begin the weekend in fourth place in the ACHL with 34 points in the standings. The Parrots are only three points behind Fayetteville for third place, however, they are only two points ahead of fifth place Macon. The top four teams (out of six) make the ACHL playoffs which begin in mid-March.
