Philadelphia KiXX News Release
Philadelphia, PA, November 4, 2003 â The Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) announced today that Philadelphia KiXX Goalkeeper Peter Pappas has been named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Month for his play throughout the month of October. Pappas receives the award after being honored as the League Goalkeeper of the Week for consecutive weeks to open the 2003-04 campaign.
The 31-year old Toronto, Ontario native posted a 2-1 record to finish the month tied for second in the MISL in wins and third with a 3.52 points against average. Pappas opened the season stopping 19 of the 21 shots he faced, including 13 of the final 14, in San Diego on October 4 to lead the KiXX to a 5-2 victory over the Sockers. The Philadelphia University graduate followed that impressive start with another stellar performance in Baltimore on October 11, where he recorded 20 saves on 23 shots to earn the 5-3 victory and spoil the Blast's championship celebration. Pappas was named the MISL Goalkeeper of the Week after each contest. He dropped his only decision of the season with an 8-4 loss to the Dallas Sidekicks on October 22.
Pappas is currently 3-1 with a 3.64 goals against average after earning a 9-4 victory over Baltimore on November 1. He is ranked first in the League in goals against average and save percentage (.837), tied for first in victories, and is second with 72 saves.
The eight-year veteran has been named to six all-star squads, four of which he was selected to start, and five all-league teams in his career. Last season, the Philadelphia University graduate received Player-of-the-Week honors three times (seven-day periods ending November 3, February 9 and March 23) and Player-of-the-Month honors for his play in the month of November. Overall in his career, Pappas has received Player-of-the Week honors 13 times as well as seven Player-of-the-Month honors.
