
Panthers Make Seven Selections on Day Two of 2015 NHL Draft

SUNRISE, Fla - On day two of the 2015 NHL Draft at BB&T Center, the Florida Panthers selected seven players: four forwards, one defenseman and two goaltenders. Selections include G Samuel Montembeault (third round, 77th overall), D Thomas Schemitsch (third round, 88th overall), C Denis Malgin (fourth round, 102nd overall) LW Karch Bachman (fifth round, 132nd overall), RW Christopher Wilkie (sixth round, 162nd overall) C Patrick Shea (seventh round, 192nd overall) and G Ryan Bednard (seventh round, 206th overall).
In Round One of the NHL Draft on Friday night, Florida selected LW Lawson Crouse from the Kingston Frontenacs of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) with the 11th overall pick.
"It was a very successful draft for us," said Panthers Executive Vice President and General Manager Dale Tallon. "Including a home-run pick in Lawson Crouse in day one, today we picked the number one goaltender on our list, while also adding scoring, speed and skill to our lineup."
Montembeault, 18, has spent the last three seasons with the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). In 2014-15 Montembeault posted three shutouts and ranked second in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League with a 2.59 goals-against average to help the Armada finish with the fewest goals against (185) and claim first place in the league's West Division. Montembeault's 33 wins this past season set a new franchise record for single-season wins.
Schemitsch,18, has spent the last two seasons with the Owen Sound Attack of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL). In 2014-15, Schemitsch recorded 49 points (14-35-49) and 36 penalty minutes in 68 games. In five postseason contests with the Attack, Schemitsch recorded two assists.
Malgin, 18, spent last season with Zurich of the Swiss A League. In 23 games, Malgin recorded eight points (2-6-8). Malgin represented Switzerland at the 2015 World Junior Championship, where he recorded seven points (1-6-7) in six games.
Bachman, 18, spent the last three seasons with Culver Military Academy. In 2014-15, Bachman recorded 43 points (19-24-43) in 32 games with Culver. Bachman recorded four points (1-3-4) in five games at the 2014 Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament while representing the United States. Bachman is set to play for the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League (USHL) in the 2015-16 season and is committed to Miami-Ohio for the 2016-17 season.
Florida traded their 147th pick in the fifth round to the New York Islanders in exchange for the Islanders' 2016 fifth round selection.
Wilkie, 18, spent the last two seasons with the Tri-City Storm of the USHL. In 2014-15, Wilkie recorded 55 points (35-20-55) in 59 games. He is committed to the University of North Dakota.
Shea, 18, spent last season at the Kimball Union Academy in New Hampshire recording 39 points (19-20-39). He is committed to the University of Maine.
Bednard, 18, played 37 games with the Johnstown Tomahawks of the North American Hockey League recording a .913 save percentage. The Macomb, MI native is committed to Bowling Green State University for the 2016-17 season.
