Calgary, Alberta - The Panther City Lacrosse Club (5-8) defeated the Calgary Roughnecks (4-7), 14 - 11, at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary Saturday night.

Goaltender Nick Damude stopped 40 of the Roughnecks 51 shots (.784 save percentage) and held Calgary scoreless in the third quarter, allowing Panther City to pad the team's lead by three, the eventual difference in the contest. The attack was led by forward Will Malcom, who recorded his third hat trick of the season and tacked on four assists to finish with seven points on the evening. Rookie of the Year candidate Patrick Dodds dished out a career high seven assists and tacked on a goal of his own to lead the team with eight points.

Two other forwards recorded a hat trick for Panther City as well, as rookie Nathan Grenon recorded his first career hat trick and forward Dean Fairall continued to stay hot with his second straight game with three or more goals. Fairall has been especially deadly with a man advantage, as since joining the club he has tallied five power play goals and the team has scored on 17 of 23 power play opportunities (74 %).

Panther City next returns home to battle the Colorado Mammoth (7-4) on Saturday, March 26. Faceoff is set for 8:30 p.m. CT at Dickies Arena.

Quotes

Head Coach Tracey Kelusky

On the win tonight...

"Competed. One thing I really liked tonight was our compete level, especially on the back end. We put a challenge out to our goalie that he needed to be a little bit better as well, and low and behold he was. I thought the men played really well in front of him. We competed well, we transitioned well and on offense, although stale at times, we shot the ball really well."

On adjustments made at half leading to shutout third quarter...

"We just talked about what we needed to do after understanding their game plan a little bit more. It boiled down to guys playing one on one good defense. One on one defense, doing their job, the communication was exceptional on the back side and then when we got ourselves into trouble, [goalie Nick Damude] stepped up and made good saves. That's what a good defense is all about- your best defender is your goaltender and Nicky played exceptional in the third quarter."

On the power-play production of Dean Fairall and Cam Milligan...

"I just look at IQ and we put them in pretty significant roles when they came in here and they embraced it. Kudos to them, they were on the outside looking in and came in with an opportunity, no different then all of our guys. We said this is an opportunity, you can take this and run with it, and Mili and Fairall have done an exceptional job of doing that."

On the consistent production and growth of Patrick Dodds and Will Malcom...

"I see poise and leadership. I see a contagious energy too and one of the things that is allowing them to have success right now is confidence. They are playing confident and playing free, and it is no easy task when you are drawing the best defenders' night in, and night out, but they are finding ways to contribute. They are playing unselfish and good things happen when you play that way."

On getting a win as a head coach in Calgary, where you played eight seasons...

"I love Calgary. This is a great city and a great arena. For me to be able to come in here with this group, this is huge for our playoff push. I love this arena, and just being able to come here and play the way we did, it is very special."

Forward Will Malcom (three goals, four assists tonight)

On winning four straight...

"I think the roster we have is finally clicking. We are playing fast on both sides and we are being successful with that so we just need to keep it going."

On improved power play and the addition of Dean Fairall and Cam Milligan...

"They are both skilled players and are very unselfish, so they have been two great additions for us."

On what led to another multi-goal performance...

"I think my teammates have doing a really good job of creating space for me to take the ball hard to the net."

On one thing you want to improve on...

"Stopping transition. That's what we have been most focused on and we are doing a pretty good job of doing that but during the end of the game, we gave up couple so we need to continue to work on that."
