Danbury Titans News Release
The Danbury Titans returned from their Christmas break with a back to back against the first place Danville Dashers in Danville. The road team has dominated the contests between the two teams going 3-1 heading into the weekend.
The Titans continued the trend as they controlled play from start to finish. Zach Tatrn got Danbury on the board 12 minutes in. The first frame ended with a 1-0 lead for the Titans.
Danville came out strong early in the second period and were able to tie the game up on a goal from AJ Tesoriero just over seven minutes in. However, the stalemate did not last long as five minutes later Frank Schumacher cashed in on the power play. From there the Titans did not look back as Mike Driscoll added a goal two minutes later. The period ended 3-1 in favor of Danbury.
Driscoll was rewarded yet again in the third with another goal about halfway through. Tesoriero was able to get Danville back within two with a shorthanded goal but Danbury captain Steve Brown answered immediately the give the Titans a three goal lead again. Former FHL Rookie of the Month Mike Driscoll tallied one more goal for his first professional hat trick.
Mike Pearless got the start for Danbury after his strong showing against Brewster in the outdoor Border War before Christmas. He continued that play stopping 32 of 34 shots on goal for the win.
While Sunday was dominated by Danbury, Monday night was a much closer contest as both teams were unwilling to give an inch. The physicality was ramped up with both teams close in the standings.
Danville jumped out to a 2-0 lead within the first 10 minutes as Andrew Harrison and Daniel Turgeon both beat Mike Pearless. The two-goal lead was short lived when Phil Bronner tallied on the power play. The physical contest continued until the end of the period.
In the 2nd, the teams traded goals early. Ryan Patsch scored just over a minute in before Andrew Harrison got his second of the night to restore the Dashers' lead. 11 minutes into the period saw Bronner get his second of the game to tie the game.
In the 3rd the Titans took the lead for good as Phil Bronner completed the hat trick. From there it was playoff style hockey with tight defensive play and physicality. Some key saves from Pearless late allowed for Mike Driscoll to cap off the weekend set with an empty net goal.
The Danbury Titans continue their road trip with games in Berlin against the RiverDrivers on December 30 and January 2. They return home on January 9 when they host the Danville Dashers at 7:35 PM. Tickets and information are available by calling 844-DTHOCKEY or visiting www.danburytitans.com.
