
Paints Win 9-5 on Veterans Appreciation Night

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - More than 5,000 fans packed VA Memorial Stadium for Veterans Appreciation Night Saturday and they went home happy, as the Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, defeated the Terre Haute REX 9-5.
Chillicothe starter Jack Raines put three on base in the top of the first, but struck out three to keep the REX off the board to start the game.
In the bottom half of the inning, Chris Eisel was hit by a pitch to lead off. Gavin Homer was hit by a pitch two batter later, putting runners at first and second with one out. Eisel stole second base and scored on a sacrifice fly by Cole Andrews, giving the Paints a 1-0 lead and Andrews his league-leading 32nd RBI of the season.
The Paints (16-11) struck for five runs in the second inning. Collin Luty and Justin McIntyre walked to start the inning. Joe Laudont doubled, scoring Luty and McIntyre, making it 3-0 Paints. Colin Shepherd singled and Chris Eisel was hit by a pitch, loading the bases. Andrew Bacon unloaded them with a double, extending the Paints' lead to 6-0.
The REX (12-14) were able to score a run-each in the third and fifth innings, cutting the Paints' lead to 5-2. Both runs were scored by Ross Indlecoffer, who doubled in both innings.
Things got interesting in the seventh. After an out and two walks, Jacob Mulcahy singled, scoring Indlecoffer. Following another walk and a pitching change, Carter Bridge drove home Austin Weiler and Mulcahy with a single, making it a one-run ballgame at 6-5.
The REX looked poised to score again in the eighth. With runner at first and second and one out, Indlecoffer lined out to McIntyre at second, he threw to first for an inning-ending double play.
After the first two batter in the bottom of the eighth were retired, Eisel sent a 3-2 pitch over the trees beyond the left-field wall, giving the Paints breathing room at 7-5. Bacon reached on an infield single and Gavin Homer extended his hit streak to 19 games with a two-run home run over the trees in left, finishing the scoring for the night at 9-5.
Raines earned a no decision, he threw 4 1/3 innings and allowed two runs on seven hits, walking three and striking out seven. Michael Hubert (1-1) was credited with his first win of the summer after throwing two innings and allowing three runs on one hit, walking three and striking out three. Austin Calopietro earned his first save of the season. He threw 2 2/3 innings, allowing three hits and striking out four, including the last batter of the game.
The Paints are home against the REX again Sunday at 6:05 p.m. It's Subway Kids Day, all kids 12 & under receive free admission and can get autographs and run the bases after the game. It's also Strike Out Stroke Night.
