Paints Walk-Off for Second Straight Night

CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - For the second time in as many nights, the Chillicothe Paints (8-12, 22-27), presented by Adena Health System, got a walk-off hit to beat the West Virginia Miners (11-8, 28-20) at VA Memorial Stadium. Chillicothe won the game 5-4 in 10 innings Sunday evening.

Brad Boss opened the scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the second to give the Paints a 2-0 lead.

West Virginia answered with a run in the top of the third and then plated three runs in the top of the fourth to go up 4-2 after three innings.

Chillicothe got one one back in the bottom of the fifth. After the Paints loaded the bases with three walks, Eli Boggess hit an RBI groundout that scored Dylan Shockley, cutting the West Virginia lead to 4-3 through five innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, Jesse Forestell led off and was hit by a pitch. Dylan Jones followed with a single and Boss laid down a sacrifice bunt to give the Paints runners at second and third with one down. Korbin Williams then loaded the bases after drawing a walk. Shockley sent a deep fly ball into center field for a sacrifice fly, scoring Forestell to tie the game, and giving Shockley his first RBI of the season. It remained 4-4 until the bottom of the 10th.

West Virginia got the first two Paints batters out quickly to start the inning, but Shockley extended the inning with a double to right-center field. Stewart Nelson followed with a flare to right field that dropped for a base hit and Shockley beat the throw home to give the Paints their second walk-off win in a row against West Virginia.

David Current (2-3) was credited with the win for Chillicothe. The pitcher from Ball State University threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings, struck out two and walked three.

West Virginia's James Doubet (1-2) took the loss. He allowed a run on two hits over an inning and a third.

The Paints are now 9-2 vs West Virginia this season, 4-1 in extra-innings games and 10-5 in one-run games.

Chillicothe is home again Tuesday night at VA Memorial Stadium against the Kokomo Jackrabbits at 7:05 p.m. Chillicothe Gazette presents DIME-A-DOG NIGHT, sponsored by Just Meats and Heiner's Bakery. Gates open at 6:05 p.m.
