CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh to beat the West Virginia Miners 3-2 in front of 3,159 at VA Memorial Stadium Thursday night.

Chillicothe (36-19) scored first when the West Virginia (18-37) shortstop misplayed a ground ball by Cole Andrews, allowing Cody Orr to score in the bottom of the first.

West Virginia's Brock Randels doubled to lead off the fourth inning and scored on a single by Zachariah Devon. Devon scored on a single by Clayton Mehlbauer, giving the Miners a 2-1 lead.

In the bottom of the seventh, Ethan Hajdukovic worked a leadoff walk, advancing to second on a sacrifice bunt by Justin McIntyre. Colin Shepherd beat out an infield hit to second. On the play, the Miners second baseman threw toward third after the runners were safe, the ball went out of play, scoring Hajdukovic and sending Shepherd to third. Parker Murdie singled with the infield in, scoring Shepherd and giving the Paints a 3-2 lead, the eventual final score.

Jack Huisman (2-1) earned the win for Chillicothe in relief. The right-hander didn't allow a run or a hit, striking out one over two innings. Nate Haugh was credited with his league-leading 13th save of the season after we worked a perfect ninth, striking out one.

The win, combined with a REX loss lowers the Paints' magic number for clinching a playoff spot to one, meaning any Paints win or REX loss the rest of the season puts Chillicothe in the playoffs for the eighth time in 11 seasons of Prospect League play. Chillicothe trails Danville for the East Division lead by a half game with five to play (six for Danville).

The Paints play the Miners Friday and Saturday at Linda K Epling Stadium in Beckley, West Virginia. Chillicothe returns home Sunday to play Danville at 6:05 p.m. in its regular-season home finale.
