CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, got a quality start from Jack Raines and hit a season-high four triples to beat the Normal CornBelters in front of 3,596 at VA Memorial Stadium Saturday night.
Raines (6-1) allowed just two unearned runs on six hits, walking two and striking out six over 6 2/3 innings. Raines how now won his last six decisions.
After Normal (16-32) scored the first run of the game on a walk and an error in the top of the first, the Paints (32-18) scored the next seven.
Joe Laudont reached on an infield hit, advancing to second base on a bad throw and scoring on a triple by Justin McIntyre.
Chillicothe took the lead for good in the bottom of the third. Cody Orr hit a one-out triple, his Prospect League record 11th of the season. Gavin Homer followed with a double, scoring Orr and putting the Paints ahead 2-1. Cole Andrews singled, scoring Homer to make it 3-1 and giving Andrews his Prospect League-leading 51st RBI of the season.
Charlie Patrick hit a two-out triple in the fourth inning and scored on a wild pitch, giving the Paints a 4-1 lead.
The Paints made it 7-1 in the bottom of the sixth. Ethan Hajdukovic hit a high fly ball to the warning track in left field, where it was misplayed allowing him to reach second base. Hajdukovic advanced to third on a wild pitch. Laudont walked and McIntyre was hit by a pitch, loading the bases with no outs. Parker Murdie hit a sacrifice fly to center field, scoring Hajdukovic and advancing Laudont to third. McIntyre stole second base, putting runner at second and third with two outs. A wild pitch brought home Laudont and a double by Orr scored McIntyre.
Normal scored their second, and final, run in the top of the seventh, cutting the Paints' lead to 7-2.
Chillicothe got the run back in the bottom of the inning after Laudont hit the Paints' fourth triple of the night, later scoring on a balk, finishing the scoring at 8-2.
Left-hander Jay Ward pitched 1 1/3 innings in relief, allowing just two hits and two walks, striking out one. Nate Haugh pitched a perfect ninth, striking out two.
Chillicothe improves to 21-7 at home this season with two games left at VA Memorial Stadium. The Paints play the next four on the road, beginning tonight at 5:30 p.m. at Terre Haute. Chillicothe is at Champion City Monday and Tuesday and at Danville Wednesday.
