Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - Starter Cody Orr turned in a strong outing and the Paints got some timely hitting in a 5-0 win over the REX Sunday at VA Memorial Stadium, taking the three-game series two games to one.
Orr (1-0), in his fourth start of the season, threw 6 2/3 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk and striking out five en route to his first win of the season. Meanwhile, the Paints' offense went to work early in the game.
Chris Eisel led off the bottom of the first with a single to center field and stole second base and, after a walk to Andrew Bacon, stole third base. Bacon followed with a steal of second. Cole Andrews drove home the game's first run with a groundout to second base, giving the Paints a 1-0 lead and Andrews a league-leading 33rd RBI. With two outs, Trey Smith singled to center field, driving home Bacon and putting the Paints up 2-0.
With one out in the third inning, Gavin Homer extended his hit streak to 20 games with his team-best seventh home run of the season. The 20-game streak is tied for the longest in the Prospect League this season and is the longest active streak currently. Cole Andrews was hit by a pitch and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Collin Luty singled to left, sending Andrews to third, he scored when Mitchell Garrity's throw home sailed wide, making the Paints' lead 4-0.
Luty reached base on a one-out walk in the bottom of the fifth inning, went to second on a groundout by Ethan Hajdukovic, stole third base and scored on a base hit by Parker Murdie, capping the scoring at 5-0 Chillicothe.
Jack Huisman replaced Orr on the mound for the Paints with two outs in the seventh. He gave up a hit, walking two and striking out three, preserving the shutout and the win for Chillicothe.
The Paints play the West Virginia Miners in Beckley Monday night before returning home Tuesday to play the Miners at VA Memorial Stadium. There is a postgame FIREWORKS EXTRAVAGANZA sponsored by 94 Country following the game Tuesday night.
