Paints Fall 5-4 at REX

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, fell behind 4-0 after three innings at Bob Warn Field Thursday night, eventually losing the REX 5-4.

The Paints (23-14) finally got on the board in the top of the fourth. Chris Eisel walked to start the inning. A wild pitch and a balk moved him to third. Eisel scored on Cole Andrews' RBI groundout, cutting the REX lead to 4-1.

Cody Orr tripled home Parker Murdie and Charlie Patrick in the top of the fifth, making it a one-run game at 4-3.

Jacob Mulcahy led the bottom of the fifth off with a double, later scoring on a single by Austin Weiler, giving the REX (20-17) a 5-3 lead.

The Paints got it to 5-4 in the top of the sixth when Gavin Homer hit his 11th home run of the season to lead off the the inning, but that's as close as Chillicothe would get.

Rylan Peets took the loss for the Paints. He started and pitched four innings, allowing five runs on seven hits, walking one and striking out two. Michael Hubert and Cal McAninch combined to hold the REX scoreless over the final four innings.

REX reliever Clayton Mayfield (1-1) earned the win, holding the Paints to one run on two hits over two innings of work. Jacob Frankel earned the save after two perfect innings to finish the game.

The Paints continue their road trip Friday night against the Aviators in Lafayette, Ind., at 7:05 p.m.
