August 6, 2019 - Prospect League (Prospect) - Chillicothe Paints News Release

BECKLEY, W.Va. - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, crushed the West Virginia Miners 10-1 Monday night at Linda K. Epling Stadium, improving their record against the Miners to 16-3 this season.

Cody Orr was hit in the back by the first pitch of the game, went to third on a double by Chris Eisel and scored on a groundout by Gavin Homer. Cole Andrews followed with a two-run home run, putting the Paints up 3-0 four batters into the game.

West Virginia (18-41) plated its only run in the bottom of the second. Kyle Schaefer singled home Noah Freimuth, who singled earlier in the inning.

Chillicothe (39-20) got a strong three innings from starting pitcher Ross Thompson, who is on a low pitch limit after coming back from injury. Thompson allowed one hit on six hits, striking out three and walking none.

Left-hander Michael Hubert (2-1) pitched the rest of the game, earning the win. He retired the first ten batters he pitched to and faced the minimum through his first five innings. Hubert didn't walk a batter, struck out three and surrendered three hits.

While Hubert was keeping the Miners offense quiet, the Paints offense continued to add on.

Justin McIntyre doubled with one out in the fourth and later scored on a two-out single by Colin Shepherd. Parker Murdie, who reached on a fielder's choice, scored on a two-out hit by Cody Orr, making it 5-1 Chillicothe.

The Paints made it 8-1 with three more runs in the sixth inning. Two wild pitched brought runs home and Orr hit an RBI triple to bring home the third run of the inning. Orr's triple is his 13th of the season, extending his Prospect League single-season record.

Orr collected his third RBI of the game with a two-out single in the eighth inning, scoring Ethan Hajdukovic, who led off the inning with a single. Orr scored on a double by Chris Eisel, finishing the scoring at 10-1.

The Paints wrap up the regular season Tuesday night with a 6:35 p.m. start against the West Virginia Miners in Beckley. If the Paints win and the Danville Dans lose their game against the REX, Chillicothe will host the East Division Championship Game Thursday night. If Danville wins and/or Chillicothe loses, the Paints will travel to Danville for the East Division Championship Game Thursday.
