Paints Complete Comeback, Beat Kings 8-6

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints, presented by Adena Health System, found themselves down 6-2 midway through their game against the Champion City Kings Tuesday night at Carleton Davidson Stadium, but scored two in the sixth and four in the eighth to win 8-6.

Cody Orr, hitting for himself as the starting pitcher, led the game off with a double and stole third before scoring on a hit by Gavin Homer. Homer scored on a double by Trey Smith, giving the Paints an early 2-0 lead, but it didn't last long.

Champion City (23-29) plated two in the bottom of the first to tie the game. Stephen Cullen hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the third, giving the Kings a 4-2 lead.

The Kings made it 5-2 with an unearned run in the fourth and Chase Carney hit a home run in the fifth to give the Kings a 6-2 lead.

An error by Champion City extended the top of the sixth, allowing Chillicothe (35-18) to tie the game 6-6 on a two-out RBI double by Colin Shepherd.

With runners at first and second with two outs in the eighth, Parker Murdie singled, scoring Justin McIntyre, cutting the Kings' lead to 6-5. Orr singed to load the bases and Chris Eisel beat out an infield hit, tying the game 6-6. Homer followed with a single, scoring Orr and Murdie to put the Paints in front 8-6, the eventual final score.

Kyle Bischoff (1-0) earned his first win of the season. the hard-throwing right-hander from the University of Toledo allowed one run on three hits, striking out four over three innings. Nate Haugh earned his league-leading 11th save of the season, he worked the ninth, walking one and striking out one.

The Paints wrap up the four-game road trip with a 7:30 p.m. (Eastern) game at Danville Wednesday night. Chillicothe returns home to VA Memorial Stadium Thursday night for a 7:05 p.m. game against West Virginia. Thursday is Fan Appreciation Night with a postgame Fireworks Extravaganza, sponsored by Budweiser. It's also Thirsty Thursday, as draft beer is just one dollar.
