Chillicothe Paints News Release
CHILLICOTHE, Ohio - The Chillicothe Paints (4-9), presented by Adena Health System, had struggled scoring runs through the first 12 games of the season. They broke out in a huge way Friday night at VA Memorial Stadium, beating the West Virginia Miners (7-7) 10-0.
The Paints started the scoring with a four-run third inning. Brad Boss was hit by a pitch to start the inning and was balked to second base. With one out, Michael Blatchford singled and advanced on a wild pitch to put runners at second and third. Stewart Nelson then singled to drive home Boss, giving Chillicothe a 1-0 lead. Nick Ryan then doubled to bring home Blatchford and Nelson. Ryan scored on a Jesse Forestell sacrifice fly to make it 4-0 after three.
Chillicothe's Jack Thompson led off the fourth with a single and was followed by a Korbin Williams walk. Boss sacrificed the runners over and Jamie Lackner drove in Thompson and Williams with single to right field, making it 6-0.
In the fifth, Forestell walked with two outs. Dylan Jones struck out, but reached first safely as the West Virginia catcher couldn't handle the wild pitch, allowing the inning to continue. Thompson then singled to bring home Forestell and push the Paints' lead to 7-0.
Chillicothe added on in the sixth. Lackner singled with one out. Blatchford walked. With two outs, Ryan was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Forestell worked an RBI walk to make it 8-0, then Jones doubled down the left field line to bring home Blatchford and Ryan to make it 10-0.
The West Virginia offense had no answer for Paints starter Michael Houdek (3-0), who allowed just three hits, walked one and struck out five en route to his third win of the year. Jake Horew pitched the final two innings, he allowed just one hit and struck out two. The Miners did not have more than one hit in any inning.
Miners starter Clyde Yoder (1-1) took the loss. He allowed six runs on five hits, walked one, struck one out, hit one batter and threw a wild pitch.
Chillicothe now heads to Butler, Penn., for a two-game set against the BlueSox Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's game is scheduled to start at 7:05 p.m., Sunday is scheduled for a 1:35 p.m. start.
The Paints return home Tuesday, June 14 against West Virginia at 7:05 p.m. for Senior Citizen Night, by Adena Health System. All fans 65 and over will receive free admission to the game.
