Pacific Coast League names players of the week

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.- Tucson Sidewinder first baseman Chris Carter used a pair of 3-for-5, four-RBI showings to take home the PCL Batter of the Week Award. Carter also tallied a .476 batting average and slugged four homers during the week ending June 11th. Edinson Volquez wasn't able to earn a decision in either of his starts for Oklahoma RedHawks during the week, but was able to earn PCL Pitcher of the Week honors after giving up just four hits and two runs in 13 innings of work.
Chris Carter kicked off his award-winning week with an impressive display of power, homering three times in a June 5th showdown with the Portland Beavers. Four days later, the Salt Lake Bees became the second club of the week to witness a 3-for-5 performance by the twenty three year-old Tucson slugger, which also included a home run and four RBI. The Fremont, California native's hot streak has proven to be a valuable spark for the Sidewinders as they are currently riding an eight-game winning streak and have won nine of their last ten games.
Oklahoma RedHawks starter Edinson Volquez appears to be settling in after a slow start in his first season at the Triple-A level. Volquez's turnaround came at the expense of the Iowa Cubs and Omaha Royals, who only managed to collect a combined four hits off of the Oklahoma right-hander. In his June 10th start against Omaha, the twenty two year-old threw seven scoreless innings, allowed just a single hit, and struck out nine Royals batters. Despite being unable to record a win in either appearance, Volquez's performances paved the way for the RedHawks to come away with victories in both contests. Hailing from La Segunua, Dominican Republic, Edinson now has a 4.05 ERA and 75 strikeouts on the season.
