FOREST CITY- The Owls bats are rolling at the right time as they put up six more runs Monday night in an exhibition game against Catawba Valley. ÃÂ
Maleeke Gibson added two RBI's and right-hander Rob Thomas got his first start of the year allowing two runs (one earned) as the Owls defeated the Stars 6-2.
The Owls came out swinging and got three runs in the second behind Maleeke Gibson's RBI double and two sac fly's coming from Danny Sheehan and Derek Hannahs.
The other RBI's came from Gibson and Dezort in the sixth, and Conor Clancey in the seventh.
Warner, Smith, and Pallares all combined to get the Owls through the rest of the game without giving up a run.
Forest City has put up 21 runs in the past three games and need to stay hot going into a three game series with the first place Gastonia Grizzlies tomorrow at 7:30 P.M at McNair Field.
Tonight during the first half of the game, a Grandma's beauty pageant took place where four ladies competed to be crowned the champion, Johnnie Street from Carolina House took home the honors.
Gastonia is in town tomorrow and Thursday night to take on the Owls before a couple of big promotions take place starting with faith and family night on Friday against Asheboro.
There will be multiple bands performing before the game so come out and enjoy live music before the game gets underway.
Saturday night will be Guns and Hoses night where policeman and firefighters will battle it out in a softball game at 5:00.
The Owls will continue the 2014 season at home Tuesday night they take on Gastonia at 7:30. Fans can purchase season tickets, ý season plans and 5-game Fireworks plans by calling the Owls office at 828-245-0000. Key dates for the 2014 season include: Fireworks Games on Saturday July 5th and Saturday August 2nd. Single game tickets are on sale now. The Owls will also take on the Chinese Taipei National team on July 7th.
The Coastal Plain League is the nation's hottest summer collegiate baseball league. Celebrating its 18th season in 2014, the CPL features 14 teams playing in North Carolina, South Carolina and Virginia. The CPL gives college players the chance to refine their skills with the use of wooden bats. Players are housed with local host families for the summer and past experiences have been very positive for both players and hosts. The CPL has had over 1,100 alumni drafted and 65 of those - including 2011 AL MVP and Cy Young winner Justin Verlander - make their Major League debut; while another notable alum - Russell Wilson - won Super Bowl XLVIII.
