Montreal Impact News Release
MONTREAL ¬" A few days after unveiling its new sport-études program, the Montreal Impact announced on Friday that over 400 youth players have registered for its tryout sessions.
The tryouts will start Saturday at the Centre d'activités physiques et communautaires de l'Est, located right near Collège Marie-Victorin in Montreal.
Registration is full for this coming weekend, with the exception of Sunday, between 9 and 10:30 am, set for players born in 1999. A few places still remain for the tryouts scheduled for December 27 and 28.
To respond to the high demand, two additional sessions have been added: December 27, between 4:30 and 6 pm, for boys born in 1997, 1998 and 1999, as well as on December 28, from 6:30 to 8 pm, for players born in 1995 and 1996.
"It is amazing to see the positive reaction from the soccer community towards this project," said Impact director of player development Philippe Eullaffroy. "We invite all players interested in playing soccer at the highest level to register. The sport-études program is the best way to integrate yourself within the Impact."
A tryout is also scheduled for Quebec City on December 29 in order to facilitate the registration for participants outside the Montreal region.
Registration for the Impact tryouts are at a cost of $40 and can be done by visiting edsimpactmontreal.com. For any questions, call 514-328-3668 (ext 240).
This sport-études program is unique in North America since it's the first time that a professional club teams up with a school institution, while offering to young players the chance to grow with a professional club. The program is offered at a very low cost during the first two years and then completely free the third year of high school.
All players selected for the program will play for the U14, U15 and U16 Impact Academy teams in Quebec's Elite Soccer League, starting in the summer of 2012. These players will also be available for selection to the Quebec provincial teams and with the Canadian national teams.
The U21 Academy started training in the gym last week. The reserve U21's of the pro team will begin its pre-season matches in mid-January.
