Outlaws hold Inaugural Local Tryouts
Cold, crisp temperatures on Saturday January 7th greeted (45) prospective players as the Osceola Outlaws held their first ever local tryouts at Thacker Field in Kissimmee.
Prospects traveled from as far away as Oregon to demonstrate their skills to Head Coach Marquette Smith and his Staff.
"Although our roster has taken shape with an impressive list of players over the past several months, these tryouts are an opportunity for undiscovered talent to surface. I am always in search of that diamond-in-the-rough", according to Head Coach Smith.
Central Florida was very well represented at the tryout. "I realize the importance of having local players on the roster, and I was encouraged by what I saw yesterday", said Smith. Players were tested for speed, strength, and agility, as well as having the opportunity to demonstrate their skills in position specific drills. The entire tryout was filmed to allow Director of Football Operations Thurman Thomas, Coach Smith and his Staff to accurately assess the skills of each participant.
Immediately following player tryouts, Lady Outlaw Dance Team auditions were held in the adjacent YMCA facility. Prospective members were put through their paces by a professional dance choreographer in an effort to identify the very best. "Our goal is to offer Outlaw fans a total entertainment experience when they attend our games at the Silver Spurs Arena, and the Lady Outlaws are an important part of that experience", said Dance Director Nicola Smith.
