Outlaws GM and head coach salute NHL's first black player

PLACE: Negro Leagues Baseball Museum (NLBM), 1616 E. 18th Street, Kansas City, MO

DETAILS: Kansas City Outlaws General Manager Joe Bucchino and Head Coach Darryl Williams salute and welcome Willie O'Ree, who was the NHL's first black player. Bucchino and Williams will present O'Ree with an Outlaws gift as a token of appreciation for O'Ree's courage and influence on the great sport of hockey.

Saturday will be a reunion of former Boston Bruins as O'Ree broke the color barrier for the Bruins in 1958, while the Outlaws' Bucchino began his career in pro hockey in 1975 as a trainer for the Bruins before rising to become assistant general manager of the New York Rangers from 1978-1990.

O'Ree is in town to promote the game of hockey and tell his historic story in the city that will welcome hockey back to Kansas City at Kemper Arena beginning Friday, October 15 when the Outlaws take the ice.

O'Ree, who has been called the "Jackie Robinson of the NHL," will share his barrier-breaking story after the ceremony with the Outlaws at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum. The event is free with a paid admission to the NLBM.
