Ottawa-Gatineau Bid Process Moves On Without Golden Gate

Toronto, ON (October 10, 2006) - The Canadian Football League (CFL) announced today that one of the investor groups that had expressed an interest in pursuing the CFL franchise rights for Ottawa-Gatineau has withdrawn from the search process.
Golden Gate Capital Corp. informed the League of its decision to withdraw due to the sudden health concerns of one of the principals involved in the franchise bid.
"Golden Gate was one of the groups that made it to our list of consideration," said Ted Hellard, Chairman of the CFL's Franchise Committee. "We have very strong investor groups under consideration and will continue our process with them to bring a CFL team back to the Ottawa-Gatineau area."
"We remain satisfied with where we currently are and the prospects that we have to consider."
CFL Commissioner Tom Wright emphasized that a key part of the franchise process is taking the necessary steps to do it right.
"We are committed to the Ottawa-Gatineau market, but this needs to be done carefully and prudently to ensure long-term success," Wright said.
