Osprey Win Fourth Straight

HELENA, MONT. - A day after clinching its first Pioneer League North first-half title since 2011, the Missoula Osprey (23-14) traveled to Helena and defeated the Brewers (16-20) by a count of 11-1 from Kindrick Legion Field. The 11 runs were a season high for Missoula, and were plenty enough for starter Yefrey Ramirez and the Osprey pitching staff.

With an Orem loss, Missoula now holds a share of the best record in the Pioneer League.

Ramirez turned in a quality start in the victory, tossing the first 6.0 innings and allowing just one run on six hits and one walk while striking out three. The quality start was his fourth of the year, and the win moved him to 3-1 on the season.

The Osprey scored four times in the third, four in the fifth, one in the seventh and two in the ninth to set the new benchmark for runs. Isan Diaz highlighted the four-run third with a three-run homer. The round-tripper, which came as part of a 2-for-3 effort with three runs scored, was his fifth of the season, and extended his hitting streak to 16 straight games.

The four-run fifth also featured run-scoring extra-base hits, as Marcus Wilson delivered an RBI-triple in front of an RBI-double from Joey Armstrong. The triple was Wilson's first of the year.

Eight of the nine starters registered a hit as the O's collected 13 in the victory. Jason Morozowski logged a 2-for-5 afternoon, belting his first career homer in the seventh and pushing his hit streak to 11 games.

Helena's lone run came in the sixth inning on Steven Karkenny's fifth home run of the year. Karkenny finished the game 2-for-3 with a run scored, the homer and a double.

After Ramirez went the first six, Will Lowman tossed a scoreless seventh before handing the ball over to Andrew Potter. The right-hander struck out a pair in a scoreless eighth before Aaron Sookee retired the side in order in the ninth to seal the victory.

Missoula will finish the first half of the 2015 season tomorrow with a 7:05 pm MT game at Helena.
