Orlando Pride News Release
ORLANDO, Fla. - Orlando Pride has announced the signing of forward Christina Burkenroad, the Club's second pick (No. 15 overall) in the 2016 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) College Draft. Burkenroad, 22, has been training with the Pride since the start of the 2016 season after being selected out of California State University at Fullerton.
"Christina has greatly impressed us with her growth as a player since the start of preseason," said Orlando Pride Head Coach Tom Sermanni. "She displays all the attributes required to be a very successful attacker in today's game."
A San Diego native, Burkenroad was a two-time NSCAA honoree after an impressive career for the Titans, where she finished with 66 points (24 goals, 18 assists) in 58 career matches, including eight game-winning goals. During her senior season, Burkenroad was named the Big West Conference Midfielder of the Year and was named MVP of the Conference's tournament in both 2014 and 2015. She earned First Team honors in both of those seasons as well.
"I'm very thankful to have the opportunity to be on the roster and I'm ready to embrace this next challenge," Burkenroad said. "I plan to take everything I have learned so far, to help the team in any way I can and to continue to grow as a player."
After defeating the Western New York Flash 1-0 on Saturday, Orlando Pride embarks on a four-game road trip starting with Friday's 8:30 p.m. ET match at the Houston Dash. The Club returns to Camping World Stadium, formerly known as the Orlando Citrus Bowl, on Thursday, June 23 at 7:30 p.m. ET
Tickets to all Pride home matches can be purchased by calling 855-ORL-CITY or online at orlando-pride.com.
