Orlando Predators News Release

ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators are proud to announce the signing of former University of Central Florida DL Frisner Nelson. He becomes the latest Knight to play for the Predators which includes QB Darin Hinshaw, FB/LB Rick Hamilton, WR Siaha Burley, and WR Jimmy Fryzel.

"I'm so happy to be joining the Predators," said Nelson. "My alma mater has a long tradition of sending players to the Preds and I'm proud to be a part of that tradition."

Professionally, Nelson has spent time with three af2 teams. He began his career in 2007 with the Tennessee Valley Vipers, now the AFL's Alabama Vipers, the Predators South Division rival. He began 2008 with the Florida Firecats. After two games he moved to the Amarillo Dusters. Nelson has also coached high school football in Orlando. From 2007 to 2009, he was the defensive line coach for Orlando Lutheran and would have returned for the 2010 season had the school not closed.

The defensive lineman was a former standout for the Knights from 2002-2005. He was a part of the historic turnaround during the 2005 season that saw UCF go from 0-11 to 8-5 and the school's first ever bowl game. That team included current NFL standouts such as WR's Brandon Marshall and Mike Sims-Walkers and K Matt Prater.

During his time with the Knights, Nelson totaled 101 tackles, 15.5 tackles for loss, and five quarterback sacks. In his senior season during 2005, Nelson recorded 31 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 quarterback sacks, and three quarterback hurries. His best season with the Knights came as a redshirt sophomore in 2003. He recorded 38 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks during the season. He graduated in 2005 with a degree in health service administration.

Prior to his time at UCF, Nelson played only one year of high school football at Fort Myers High School. He finished third on the team in tackles as a nose guard. His strength on the field was also shown off the field as well. He set school records in the power clean and dead lift. Nelson was also a conference, district, and regional champion in the shot put.
