Orlando Predators News Release
ORLANDO - The Orlando Predators began piecing together its roster for the 2012 season this past week by re-signing a local player during the Arena Football League's exclusive signing period. Returning to the team is Lyman High School alumni Mark Lewis (5'10, 200, Florida International) who made major contributions this past season.
Lewis, the Arena Football League's Kicker of the Year in 2007, is entering his second season with the Preds and eighth AFL season overall.
The decision to return to the Preds, the team he grew up watching as a kid, was an easy one for Lewis to make.
"Being close to home is real crucial for me at this point in my life," Lewis said. "And I'm glad to be a part of the Predators, an organization that consistently wins and knows how to do things the right way."
Lewis finished 2011 ranked No. 4 in the AFL in extra-point conversions (118 of 134) and No. 9 in scoring among all kickers (7.1 points per game).
His season was highlighted by a 36-yard field goal against Utah on March 26, during a game in which he converted two field goals and eight extra points. He also made 11 of 12 extra points, tied for most conversions made in a game, at Tulsa on July 16. Lewis finished the year with 41 touchbacks on 153 kickoffs.
Preparations for 2012 were already underway, Lewis said, immediately following the team's first-round exit in the playoffs.
"I approach every season the same way," he said. "I'm still kicking as often as I can. The way this last year ended just added to my fire going into the offseason."
The Predators have made the AFL postseason a record 19-straight times.
The exclusive signing period for AFL teams ends Sept. 26, at which point players are free to sign with any team.
