Original Tropic Anthony Arico Signs Two-Year Extension to Stay with Florida

LAKELAND, Fla - An original member of the Major Arena Soccer League Florida Tropics has signed a two-year deal to stay with the club.

Anthony Arico, a fan favorite with his high energy style of play, started his professional indoor soccer career in 2014 with the Milwaukee Wave before a trade sent him to the St. Louis Ambush where he played before coming to the Tropics in 2016. Per league and team policies, no further contract information is being released.

In 107 career games, the play-making midfielder who also has been asked to play on defense at times in his five years with Florida, has 44 goals and 36 assists. That includes four career short-handed goals, all with the Tropics, including two 2017-18 when he scored a career-best 12 goals and totaled 18 points.

"His energy, his defensive presence, is a must to be successful, so we're thrilled to have him back," Coach Clay Roberts noted. "His level of play is based on his energy so when he brings that competitiveness every single night, that sparks our team. His aggressive play sets a tone for us in big moments that other players can feed off of."

Arico spent his collegiate career at Eckerd College in St. Petersburg, Florida. During his time at Eckerd, Arico scored 15 goals and recorded 15 assists as a four-year starter for the Tritons. finishing his senior year with four goals and seven assists. Arico also played for the Tampa Bay Rowdies NPSL side.

The Tropics - presented by Bond Clinic - will open their sixth season in the Major Arena Soccer League on Dec. 4 when they travel to meet the Baltimore Blast. The home opener is set for Saturday, Dec. 18 when they host the Ontario Fury at the RP Funding Center in Lakeland, part of a historic nine-game homestand. Kickoff for the sixth home opener in team history is set for 5:05 p.m.

Season tickets for all 12 Florida home games which guarantee the best seats in the house are now on sale by calling 863-240-0101. Each family season ticket account includes a parking pass this season.

In addition, the "Tropics Blitz" will provide free general admission tickets to many of the 200 level seats at the RP Funding Center for the entire 2021-22 season thanks to the team's sponsor as a thank-you for five years of support, and as a way of providing a great evening of family entertainment for parents and kids who have had their activities curtailed because of the ongoing pandemic. Vehicles with two or more persons will pay $20 to park, and then be able to take their parking receipt to the RP Funding Center box office for the same number of free tickets to that day's game as occupants in the vehicle. Single occupant vehicles will pay just $10 for parking.
