O'Reilly Featured in OHL Coaches Poll
March 24, 2009 - Ontario Hockey League (OHL)
Erie Otters News Release
Ryan O'Reilly of the Erie Otters was included in three categories in the Western Conference in the annual Ontario Hockey League Coaches Poll, the results of which were released today.
The second-year forward was selected as the Best Penalty Killer in the Western Conference and was also listed second in the Best on Face-Offs category and tied for third (with London's John Tavares) as the Conference's Best Playmaker.
Luke Gazdic was the only other member of the Otters included in the Poll. The third-year forward was listed as the second Best Body Checker in the Conference.
The OHL Coaches Poll provides team coaches with the opportunity to recognize players in several skill categories within their own conference. The top three players in each category from the Eastern and Western Conferences are recognized. Coaches vote for each category within their conference and are not permitted to vote for players on their own team. Players receive five points for a first place vote, three points for a second place vote and one point for a third place vote.
In the Western Conference, Ryan Ellis of the Windsor Spitfires topped the list in three categories including Smartest Player, Hardest Shot, and Best Offensive Defenceman.
Brampton Battalion captain Cody Hodgson led the way as winner of four Eastern Conference categories including Smartest Player for the second straight year, Hardest Worker, Best on Face-Offs, and Best Penalty Killer.
The Otters continue their Western Conference Quarterfinal Series against the London Knights with Games 3 and 4 of the best-of-seven series to be played tomorrow (Wednesday) and Thursday at the Tullio Arena. The first 2,000 fans into the game tomorrow (Wednesday) will receive an Otters rally towel from SpringHill Suites and O'Charley's Restaurant. The first 2,000 fans into the game Thursday will receive a free Otters t-shirt courtesy of Esser Family Dental, Chiropractic Fitness, Schultz Furniture Superstore, Tullio Arena and Creative Imprint Systems.
Tickets for the games are on sale now at the Civic Center Box Office, all Erie-area Ticketmaster locations, on-line at www.ottershockey.com or by calling 814-452-4857.
