Bellingham Bells News Release
Oregon State 's Jake Mulholland bound For Bellingham Feb 20th 2017, 15:31
Last summer, the Bellingham Bells made the trip to Corvallis, Oregon twice, including an appearance in the WCL championship series. In 2017, Jake Mulholland from Snohomish, Wash. will travel from Corvallis, where the left-hander pitches for the Oregon State Beavers, to join the Bellingham Bells.
"We are excited to be starting a new relationship with Oregon State," Bells' general manager Stephanie Morrell said. "OSU is a tremendously strong program with a reputation for success, having reached a regional in five of the past six seasons and winning back to back NCAA titles in 2006 & 2007. We are thrilled to be adding Jake to our roster and beginning a connection with the Beavers we hope will continue for years to come!"
Mulholland joins the Bells after making his collegiate debut this weekend for OSU. The 6-3 southpaw threw two and a third innings of shutout baseball, while fanning three and allowing just one man to reach in the Beavers' 1-0 season-opening win over Indiana.
Prior to becoming a Beaver, Mulholland was one of the top prep arms in the state of Washington at Snohomish High School. Mulholland was named first team All-State, and the Everett Herald Player of the Year following a senior campaign where he did not allow a single earned run in 33 innings, posting a 0.00 ERA while fanning 49 batters and going an undefeated 6-0 on the hill. As a junior, Mulholland went 11-0 with a 0.85 ERA, striking out 81 men in 63 innings on the bump and earning second team All-State honors.
Mulholland played for the Kansas City Royals Area Code team at the 2015 Area Code Games. At the conclusion of the 2016 season, Baseball Northwest rated him as the best left-handed pitcher and fifth-best player in the state of Washington.
"Jake is a left-handed hurler who knows how to help his team win games," Morrell said. "It is unheard of to see a pitcher complete a season without allowing an earned run, which Jake did last season. We are thrilled to be adding a player of his talent to our roster!"
Mulholland and the 2017 Bells open the regular season against the Gresham GreyWolves on June 2nd at Joe Martin Field in Bellingham.
