Ontario Native Kendra Broad Returns from Europe, Signs Contract with the Connecticut Whale

After bringing her talents across the globe, Kendra Broad is returning to North America to sign with the Connecticut Whale.

"I really believe in the vision that [Whale GM] Bray Ketchum has set forth and I'm honored to be a part of a league like the NWHL that has done so much to advance the women's game," said Broad. "I'm very excited to sign my first NWHL contract and to be a part of the Whale organization."

Broad began her collegiate career at Lindenwood, recording 51 points (24-27-51) in three seasons and serving as an assistant captain her final campaign. The Petrolia, Ontario native returned to Canada, spending two seasons at Western Ontario. She posted 48 points (24-24-48) in 42 games with the Mustangs, including 11 power play goals and 11 game-winners.

"I see myself as a leader, an offensive threat, a playmaker and someone that can be relied on to play a two-way game," said Broad, when asked to describe her game.

After college, Broad spent three seasons playing in Europe. She recorded 17 points (9-8-17) in 34 games for Sundsvall/Timrå of the SDHL, before spending the next two campaigns in the Swiss Women's Hockey League. In 38 games with the SWHL's NE Hockey Academy, Broad had 33 points (18-15-33).

"Kendra has been a top forward throughout her career," said Ketchum. "We're proud to welcome her to the Connecticut Whale."

Broad also teaches English online to Chinese children through VIPKID. She plans to coach hockey in the Connecticut community upon her arrival.

"The ultimate goal is for us to win the organization's first Isobel Cup," said Broad, "So I want to contribute to that to the best of my ability."
