American Defenders of New Hampshire News Release
(NASHUA, NH) Former Nashua Pride shortstop Olmo Rosario and pitcher Steve Palazzolo have been assigned to the Connecticut Defenders, double-A affiliate of Major League Baseball's San Francisco Giants.
The contracts of Rosario and Palazzolo were sold to the Giants in September of 2007, just days after the Nashua Pride won its first Can-Am League Championship.
Rosario was the Can-Am League Player of the Year for the 2007 season. For the Pride, the San Cristobal, DR native led the league with 133 hits. He finished second with a .362 average, ranked third with a .550 slugging percentage, tied for third with 41 extra-base hits, and tied for third with 25 doubles. The shortstop also slugged 12 homeruns, drove in 59 RBI, and legged out a team high 4 triples.
In the 2007 postseason, Rosario was among the leaders in nearly every statistical category. The former Tampa Bay Devil Ray minor leaguer led all post season hitters with 13 hits, was tied for first with 2 stolen bases, and tied for second with 6 runs scored, third with a .419 batting average, tied for third with 2 home runs, fourth with a .472 on-base percentage, and fourth with a .645 slugging percentage.
Palazzolo was arguably the Pride's top setup man out of the bullpen in the 2007 season. He led the team with a 2.14 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .208 batting average. The North Reading, MA native was tied for third in the league with 43 appearances. In 54.2 innings pitched, the 6'10" right-hander allowed only 41 hits while striking out 63 batters.
Both Rosario and Palazzolo will now enjoy their second stint in Major League affiliated baseball, as Rosario was formally a member of the Tampa Bay Rays organization and Palazzolo previously with the Milwaukee Brewers.
Since the Nashua Pride joined the Can-Am League in 2006, the organization has sent six players to Major League organizations.
The Nashua Pride Professional Baseball Club, 2007 Can-Am League Champions, entering its eleventh season, provides a fun, affordable, community-based and fan-friendly source of sports entertainment. The 2007 Can-Am League Champions will be participating in its third year of play in the Canadian American Association of Professional Baseball.
