Oklahoma Cavalry Hire Otis Birdsong

July 30, 2007 - Continental Basketball Association 1 (CBA 1) News Release

ALBANY, NY (July 30, 2007) - The Continental Basketball Association today in conjunction with the Oklahoma Cavalry announced the hiring of Otis Birdsong as their President and General manager for the upcoming 2007-08 season.

Birdsong joins the Cavalry after spending the past two seasons as the General Manager of the Arkansas Rimrockers of the NBDL. Prior to his time with the Rimrockers, Birdsong spent 12 seasons in the NBA. Birdsong, the second pick of the 1977 NBA Draft, scored over 14,000 points with the Kansas City-Omaha Kings, New Jersey Nets, and the Boston Celtics. He was selected to four NBA All-Star Games in his career. Otis was a teammate of current Cavalry Head Coach Micheal Ray Richardson with the New Jersey Nets from the 1982-83 season to the 1985-86 season. Birdsong spent four glamorous seasons with the University of Houston, were he was named a consensus All-American in 1977.

"I am extremely happy to be on board with the Cavalry," said Birdsong. "This franchise will be the model franchise for the CBA. We will be out in the community in force to show that we are here for the people of Lawton. I look forward to working with Micheal Ray, Baron and the rest of the Cavalry staff to bring the best basketball to Lawton."

"Otis is a great hire for us," stated Cavalry Chairman Baron Hopgood. "Otis has a history of developing a model basketball franchise. He and Ricardo Richardson, CBA Properties President and CEO, developed the Arkansas Rimrockers, which had over 15,000 fans at their championship game. Otis has experience on the floor as a player and in the front office as a general manager. He brings the best of both worlds to Lawton. It is also a plus that he has prior experience with our head coach as a teammate in the NBA."

"It is great to have my former teammate on board. They use to call us Rhythm and Blues when we played for the New Jersey Nets. I know that we will bring the Rhythm to Lawton and the blues to our opponents. Otis has the knowledge to get things done and I am excited to be working with him again," said Michael Ray Richardson.
