OKC hosts first tryouts for 2003
Published on October 14, 2002 under Independent Women's Football League (IWFL) News Release
Oklahoma City has proven that women's football was a challenge that they were willing to met head on. The OKC team was rated 2nd in the Central division of the IWFL, last season, but they have their sights set on a national championship for the 2003 season.
"OKC was so supportive of women's football last year, that we are really looking forward to stepping it up a notch this year," stated owner Rose Shinert.
Shinert believes this will be her team's year to shine in a league that is quickly becoming the largest, most competitive women's football league in existence.
With new teams continuously joining the league, Laurie Fredrick, CEO of the IWFL, knows exactly how hard this goal will be.
"OKC has always fielded a great team but this years competition will be harder then ever," states Fredrick.
The IWFL will start their third year of play in the Spring of 2003 with close to 30 teams across the country. Shinert feels strongly that she will be ready to take any team that plans on standing between OKC and the 2003 IWFL National Championship, scheduled to be held next July. Fredrick, who has traveled from her home in Austin, TX, along with the Western conference director, Kez Disney, is always willing to pitch in and help get a team get ready for a new season.
"This makes all the hard work seem worth while. I get a chance to met the prospective players for the first time. I have the privilege of witnessing the excitement in their eyes, some fulfilling a lifelong dream of playing tackle football for the first time. I wouldn't pass this opportunity up this up for anything," stated Fredrick.
