Ohio Machine Closes out Successful 2013 Supplemental Draft with 12 Players
COLUMBUS, Ohio (December 12, 2012) - The Ohio Machine (Machine), Ohio's Major League Lacrosse (MLL) team gearing up for its 2013 season, closed out its 2013 MLL Supplemental Draft with 12 players hailing from all over the country, including Colgate University (Colgate), University of Massachusetts (Massachusetts) and The Ohio State University (OSU).
With its first pick of the draft, the Machine drafted Colgate midfielder Jeff Ledwick (4th Overall), who started all 18 games as captain in the 2012 season. Ledwick finished the season with 32 goals and 15 assists for a total of 47 points, which landed him third on the team. Ledwick received a 2012 USILA All-America Honorable Mention and was named to the 2012 All-Patriot League First Team and 2012 Patriot League All-Tournament Team. He finished his tenure at Colgate for a combined total of 40 appearances and 63 career points (44G, 19A).
"Jeff is a strong, smart and highly-rated offensive player that gives us added depth at the midfield position and who also has the ability to score," said Machine Head Coach Ted Garber. "We are excited to see him play alongside the rest of our team during training camp."
The Machine continued in the draft by picking up multiple Massachusetts Minutemen, including players from the 2012 undefeated team such as attackman Art Kell (17th Overall), goalie Tim McCormack (29th Overall) and face-off specialist Anthony Toresco (65th Overall). Kell, the 6'1, 205 pound attackman, finished his 2012 senior season with 33 goals and 20 assists for a total of 53 points, finishing second on the team for assists and points and tied second for goals.
The Machine also drafted Massachusetts alum and MLL veteran defenseman Diogo Godoi (pronounced JOE-go guh-DOY) at 19th Overall. Godoi, a 6'3, 220 pound powerhouse player who most recently played for the Rochester Rattlers from 2011-2012, was a 2010 Tewaaraton Trophy candidate and was named to the 2012 USILA Third-Team All-American, 2010 First Team All-New England and 2012 CAA First Team Defenseman.
"We picked up the majority of the guys in this draft that we wanted to have on our roster for camp," said Garber. "They are all good players with impressive lacrosse talents that we look forward to seeing on the field at training camp come April."
The Machine also added OSU midfielder Andrew Stimmel and former Machine players Will Harrington (midfielder) and Audi Glass (defenseman) to the 2013 roster.
The Machine currently has 35 players on its 2013 roster and will add five more players before the start of 2013 Training Camp, which begins in April.
