Ottawa Fury FC News Release
OTTAWA, ON - Ottawa Fury FC closed out their week-long camp in Casa Grande, Arizona with a convincing 4-0 win over RSL Academy on Sunday afternoon. Paulo Junior, Carl Haworth and Dennis Chin (with a pair) took charge of the Ottawa offence while Andrew MacRae and Marcel DeBellis shared the shutout for Fury FC who have now outscored the opposition 9-1 in pre-season action that also includes wins over TFC II (2-1) and Indy Eleven (3-0).
Head coach Paul Dalglish was thrilled by his team's performance and was really happy to see that the work done during training is paying off.
"We've been working on how we get behind the opposition's defense. That's seven goals in two games, all coming from the wings. I think it's coming together quite nicely. Both groups did a really good job and it's nice to get the win"
Dalglish was quick to credit his squad's defensive performance who recorded their second straight clean sheet.
"First half there was only one mistake that lead to a scoring chance for them and in second half I don't think there were any chances. We're still miles away from 90-minutes fitness level, but now that we're at 45 we're going to build on that for the next 2-3 weeks."
Action started in first half with Paulo Junior showing off his great form once again as he gave his team a 1-0 lead early in the game. The Brazilian netted his second goal in two matches with a nice feed from fellow Brazilian teammate Fernando Timbo.
In the second half, Carl Haworth and Dennis Chin showed some great chemistry as the Canadian-Jamaican duo produced all three goals en route to a 4-0 win.
Chin scored his first of the game just before the hour-mark after receiving a nice loop-ball from Mozzi Gyorio. The speedy-winger then delivered a perfect through ball to Carl Haworth for the third goal. And to top it all off, Haworth returned the favour when he set up Chin's second goal of the game from the right flank for a low finish.
"It's always good to score goals, whenever it is," said Chin. "Confidence is key especially for an attacking player. It's still early in the preseason and we're still trying to build together, but it's good for fitness and getting sharp in front of the net."
After a week in Casa Grande, Arizona, Fury FC return to Ottawa on Monday and resume training camp Tuesday at the Complexe Branchaud-Briere in Gatineau. Next on the pre-season fixture list for Fury FC is a visit to Rochester on March 10 to face the Rhinos - the reigning USL Champions.
