Indiana Ice News Release
The Indiana Ice broke a 1-1 first period tie by scoring five unanswered goals in a dominating 6-1 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers Sunday afternoon at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. Indy took control in the second period when they tallied a pair of goals and never looked back.
The stat line of the afternoon was Indiana's 25-1 shots on goal advantage in the third period. The trio of goals in the final 20 minutes made a winner of Jason Pawloski in net for the hosts.
The weekend was profitable for the Ice as they garnered all four points after pinning the first loss off the season on the Dubuque Fighting Saints Saturday in a 5-3 victory. Pawloski also earned that win in net.
"They are making my job easier. My team is keeping the shots low and mostly from the outside," the first year goalie commented. "We are pulling everything together."
Indy built a 3-1 lead at the second intermission when they scored a pair of middle period goals while keeping Des Moines off the scoreboard. Dwyer Tschantz broke the 1-1 tie when he redirected Timothy Shoup's shot from the faceoff dot 34 seconds into the stanza. Joshua Jacobs initiated the scoring sequence to also earn an assist on Tschantz' fifth goal of the season.
Michael Booth gave the hosts a two-goal advantage when he found daylight in the short side of Buccaneer goaltender Billy Christopolous' net at 9:14 of the second session. Booth buried the rebound of Joe Chitwood's backhander as Christopolous could not square up on Booth's short shot. Brian Pinho earned a point with an assist on the play.
The hosts trailed 20-18 in shots on goal heading into the third period but limited the visitors to a single shot in the final 20 minutes. Scott Conway's second goal of the game while skating on the power play gave the Ice a 4-1 lead. Patrick Newell had all the attention of the visitor's defense on the stick side of Christopolous' net and slid a scoring pass to Conway on the glove side of the goalie's crease. Conway buried his sixth goal of the season at 3:06 with a helper from Joshua Jacobs.
"We are working well as team and putting the puck on net and then crashing the crease. We were peppering them pretty well," Conway stated.
Indiana won a board battle which resulted in Aidan Muir's second goal in two games with 3:51 remaining. Conway and Denis Smirnov assisted. Tyler Andrew closed the scoring at 17:49 of the third period. Andrew notched his first of the season with Jacob Pritchard and Zach Osburn teaming up on the scoring play.
The teams traded first period goals with Conway scoring his first of the game 7:20 after the opening faceoff. Chris Martenet earned his first point in an Indy sweater with an assist. Tschantz earned the first helper of the game.
Indy continues through a seven-game home stretch on Friday, November 1 as the Ice host the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders from Bankers Life Fieldhouse.
