His 55.1 yards per game ranked as 4th best in their league. He also ranked 4th best in rushing touchdowns with 21 and finished 7th in total points scored with 140.
Two season ago, Shannon ranked 4th in the UIF in rushing with 599 yards on the season, and finished #2 in the league in scoring with 24 touchdowns and 146 total points scored, trailing only former UIF MVP Fred Jackson in touchdowns and total points. Along with running back Dale Jennings, the BlueCats backfield combination of Shannon and Jennings combined for 1,234 rushing yards in 2005, making them the most prolific rushing duo in the league.
Odest Shannon still holds some BlueCats team records from his 2005 season including the records for single season all-purpose yards (1,730), single season kick return yards (1,023), kick return average (19.7), and kick return touchdowns (3).
Shannon is originally from Indianapolis and played high school football for Indianapolis Cathedral High School. Odest led the Fighting Irish to 4A State Championships in 1998 and 1999. Shannon was honored as Indiana's "Mr. Football" after the 2000 season.
Odest also owns numerous high school rushing records in the state of Indiana. He owns the state record for career rushing yards, running for 7,560 yards in his four years at Cathedral (1997-00). He leads the second place rusher by 257 yards. Shannon also holds the single game rushing record with 489 yards in a single game during the 1999 season. His single season total of 3,252 yards in 1999 was a state record at the time, but has since been broken, but his 1999 total still currently ranks as the second best single season in Indiana high school history.
