The Week 21 recipients of the Oakley Central Hockey League Player and Goaltender of the Week awards have been determined following nominations from CHL member clubs. Defenseman Clay Plume of the expansion Rocky Mountain Rage has been selected as the Oakley Player of the Week after three fine outings that saw him record points in each Rage contest while registering a CHL best +6 plus/minus rating. Netminder Shawn Conschafter of the Amarillo Gorillas earns Oakley Goaltender of the Week accolades after recording crucial back to back home wins in which he allowed just single goals against in each victory.
Plume recorded a season high three points Thursday night to help the Rage erase a 3-1 deficit to the visiting Wichita Thunder and post a 4-3 comeback win. He scored his sixth goal of the season with 6:10 left to play, then assisted on Craig Olynick's game winning goal at the 18:13 mark. He went on to add an assist the following evening in a 5-3 loss in Tulsa, then registered his seventh goal of the campaign the next night in a 5-4 shootout loss, also to the Oilers. Plume leads all Rage defenseman with both seven goals and 24 total points this season.
The Amarillo Gorillas entered weekend play winless in eight games but received two quality performances from Conschafter to quickly right the ship. Friday evening he made 35 saves against Southwest Division leading New Mexico in a 4-1 win, then made another 26 stops the next night as the Gorillas posted a 5-1 victory over the Lubbock Cotton Kings. In picking up his 15th and 16th wins of the year, Conschafter becomes the second Gorilla to earn the Oakley Goaltender of the Week award this season, joining Jamie Vandespyker, the Week 17 recipient.
