
NY Lizards Win against Atlanta Blaze in Final Game of the Season

The New York Lizards MLL Lacrosse team won/lost against the Atlanta Blaze in their final home game of the season here tonight by a score of 21 - 15. The team ends the season with a 5-11 record.
Rob Pannell recorded a nine point night with five goals and four assists as the Lizards beat the Atlanta Blaze 21-15 In front of 5,447 fans in the season finale at Shuart Stadium on the campus of Hofstra University. Dylan Molloy had four goals and an assist for five points while Brendan Kearns netted a hat trick.
Also for the Lizards, Justin Reh dished out four assists while Nick Aponte and Kevin Crowley each had two goals and an assist. Nick Galasso, Mark Ellis, Michael Begley and goalie Austin Kaut also scored goals for the Lizards who finished the season 5-11. Kaut provided a thrilling end to the first quarter when his shot from near the Lizards goal went the length of the field past Atlanta goalie Chris Madalon for a two-point goal that made it a 6-6 game after 15 minutes.
Between the pipes, Kaut faced 21 shots and made six saves before Danny Dolan entered the game in the fourth quarter but did not face any shots. The Lizards outshot the Blaze 35-21, recorded 22 turnovers to Atlanta's 25, won the groundball battle 57-40 and Greg Puskuldjian won 21 out of 28 face-offs.
Trailing 12-9 in the third quarter, the Lizards ran off six straight goals including Molloy's goal at the 10:13 mark that gave the Lizards a 13-12 lead. The Lizards would close the quarter by scoring seven of the last eight goals to lead 16-13 heading to the fourth quarter.
For the Blaze (8-8), Christian Mazzone scored six goals while Tommy Palasek had five goals and three assists for an eight point night. Goalie Chris Madalon faced 25 shots and made ten saves.

The Lizards also hosted "Salute to Heroes Night," honoring local military service members and first responders in a halftime ceremony:
FIRE: David June (Selden, NY), a member of the Holbrook Fire Department since 1989, he was named firefighter of the year in 2004 and elected captain in 2007. David joined the Islip Town Firefighters Museum in 2004.
EMS: John Morovich (Westbury, NY), who has served 20+ years in EMS in NYC and Long Island and is a Paramedic Supervisor with Northwell Health EMS.
MILITARY: First Lieutenant Joseph J. Theinert (Sag Harbor, NY), killed in action in Afghanistan in 2010 while serving with the 1st squadron, 71st Cavalry Regiment. His family, which established the Joseph J. Theinert Memorial Fund in his memory, will receive the posthumous honor. The uniforms worn by players during the game will be signed and auctioned off on the New York Lizards eBay store to benefit Lead the Way Fund, Islip Town Firefighters Museum and Northwell EMS. The auction will start on Monday, September 23 at 3:00pm EDT. Additionally, one jersey signed by the entire team will be auctioned.
