NY Lizards Lose to Atlanta Blaze at Home

Hempstead, NY - The New York Lizards MLL Lacrosse team lost to the Atlanta Blaze in their sixth home game of the season here tonight, 14-13 in sudden death overtime. The Lizards season record falls to 3-9.

Bryan Cole capped a hat trick as he scored with 8:08 left in overtime. Christian Mazzone led the Blaze with four goals while former Lizards Mark Matthews and Tommy Palasek scored twice. Between the pipes, Atlanta goalie Christopher Madalon made 14 saves.

The loss was the Lizards fourth in a row and it drops them to 3-9 on the season. Ryan Walsh led the way for the Lizards with three goals including the game tying goal with one minute to go in regulation. Nick Aponte had two goals and two assists while Rob Pannell had two goals and an assist. Nick Galassoscored twice while Nick Spillane, Brendan Kearns, Greg Puskuldjian, and Michael Begley each scored one goal. Lizards goalie Austin Kaut made 13 saves.

Shots on goal in the game were even at 27. The Lizards committed 19 turnovers to Atlanta's 18 and New York won the face-off battle taking 15 out of 29 draws. The Blaze dominated the Lizards in ground balls 49-38. The Lizards now embark on a two game road trip as they head to Denver to battle the Outlaws next Saturday, August 24th at 9pm and then the following Saturday, August 31stagainst the Dallas Rattlers in Frisco at 8pm.

The Lizards return home to Shuart Stadium on Saturday, September 7th to meet the defending MLL champion Denver Outlaws at 7pm. Tickets for this game and for all future Lizards home games can be purchased.
