NY Lizards Lacrosse Drops Fourth Game of Compressed 2020 Season to Connecticut Hammerheads, 10-8

Anapolis, MD - The New York Lizards MLL Lacrosse team lost their fourth game of the compressed 2020 season to the Denver Outlaws by a score of 10-8 in regular play here today. The Lizards' team record this season stands at 0-4. The Lizards will next face the Philadelphia Barrage on Thu, July 23 @ 4 p.m. on ESPN+.

Bradley Voigt scored four goals to lead the Connecticut Hammerheads to the victory at Navy-Marine Corp Stadium in Annapolis, Maryland. Down by two late in the fourth quarter, the Lizards had the ball with a chance to tie the game, but they couldn't beat Connecticut netminder Sean Sconone. The former UMass goalie made 15 saves for the Hammerheads (1-2) as they picked up the first win in franchise history. The Lizards dominated the first quarter with many great scoring chances, but Sconone was a brick wall between the pipes.

Decker Curran and Sean O'Brien scored first quarter goals as the Lizards (0-4) took a 2-1 lead after 15 minutes. But in the second quarter, the Lizards couldn't find the back of the net as Hammerheads outscored New York 3-0 to take a 4-2 lead at halftime.

The start of the second half was delayed an hour because of bad weather, the second straight game that the Lizards had to wait out a weather delay.

Andrew Pettit's goal at 2:01 of the third quarter snapped the Lizards' scoreless streak that ran 19 minutes and 17 seconds from the first quarter to the third. O'Brien, who now has six goals on the season, scored :44 later to tie the game at four and he finished the game with three goals and an assist for four points.

For the Lizards, Pettie finished with two goals while Connor O'Hara scored his 11th goal of the season. Nick Aponte scored his first of the season and between the pipes Austin Kaut made eight saves. The Lizards outshot the Connecticut 45-23 and had the edge in shots on goal 23-18. The Hammerheads captured the face-off battle winning 14 out of 22 draws while the Lizards had the advantage in ground balls 46-41.
