NWSL Announces Canadian Women's National Team Allocated Players for 2016 Season

CHICAGO - The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the official list of Canadian Women's National Team allocated players from the Canadian Soccer Association (CSA) for the 2016 season. A total of 11 Canadian allocated National Team players will be participating in the upcoming NWSL season.

The placement of the Canada's allocated individuals was accomplished using the league's prior placement processes, as that process began prior to the adoption of the new rule. The new Player Allocation Process, which was announced on Jan. 15, 2016, will be in effect moving forward to distribute the rights to any new individuals to clubs in the league.

In addition to the returning allocated National Team players, there are six newly allocated National Team players that will be spread among the ten clubs, including Janine Beckie, Josée Belanger, Sabrina D'Angelo, Stephanie Labbé, Desiree Scott and Shelina Zadorsky.

From the college ranks, Janine Beckie from Texas Tech University has been designated as a Canadian allocated player, after she was selected no. 8 overall by the Houston Dash in the 2016 NWSL College Draft.

# = The Washington Spirit and Chicago Red Stars completed the final piece of their Jan. 25 trade, in which the Spirit traded midfielder Amanda Da Costa and the Spirit's natural fourth-round pick in the 2017 NWSL College Draft to the Red Stars. In exchange, the Spirit have received goalkeeper Stephanie Labbé from the Red Stars.

The National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) is a ten-team Division-I women's professional soccer league featuring national team players from around the world. The ten clubs are the Boston Breakers, Chicago Red Stars, Houston Dash, FC Kansas City, Orlando Pride, Portland Thorns FC, Seattle Reign FC, Sky Blue FC, Washington Spirit and Western New York Flash.
