NWHL Record-Breakers Lovisa Selander and Amanda Boulier Are the VEDA Players of the Week

February 25, 2020 - Premier Hockey Federation (PHF) News Release

Boston Pride goaltender Lovisa Selander and Minnesota Whitecaps defender Amanda Boulier are the VEDA Players of the Week.

Lovisa Selander picked up her 16th and 17th wins of the season in back-to-back shutouts against the Connecticut Whale and the Metropolitan Riveters. Boston's Swedish sensation earned her first professional shutout on Saturday in Bridgeport, CT at the Webster Bank Arena in a 13-save performance. The very next day Selander returned to the crease for the Pride and closed the door on all 29 shots the Riveters sent her way, ending the season with a 130:20 shutout streak.

It was a fitting end to one of the most impressive rookie campaigns for a goaltender in NWHL history. Selander established a new NWHL record for wins in a season (17), eclipsing Brittany Ott's record of 13 wins set in the 2015-16 season. She is the NWHL's all-time leader in wins among European-born goaltenders and is just the sixth goaltender in league history to earn two shutouts in a single season.

Amanda Boulier provided her trademark steady defense in Minnesota's 6-1 victory over the Beauts on Saturday, but her performance on Sunday was all about offense.

Boulier tallied a power-play goal in the first period of Sunday's game to knot the score at 2-2 and then led the Whitecaps' offensive onslaught in the final 40 minutes of the game. Boulier scored two more goals in the second period, both at even strength, to record her first career hat trick. Before scoring her third goal of the game, the all-star defender picked up her 21st assist of the season on Allie Thunstrom's landmark 20th goal of the season. As a result of her hat trick, Boulier is now the all-time leader in goals scored by a defender and became the first blueliner to score five or more goals twice in her NWHL career.

Selander and the Pride return to action on March. 8 to play the winner of the play-in game between the Connecticut Whale and the Buffalo Beauts, which takes place on March. 6 at Northtown Center in Amherst, NY. Boulier and the Whitecaps close out the 2019-20 regular season with a final regular season homestand against the Whale that begins on Saturday, March 29 at 7:00 p.m. CT and concludes on Sunday, March 1 at 1:00 p.m. CT. Tickets for both games are available now at whitecaps.nwhl.zone/tickets. Fans can also find tickets for the highly-anticipated Isobel Cup Semifinal game between the Whitecaps and Riveters, which takes place on March 8 at 12:30 p.m. CT, at nwhl.zone/tickets.
