What Is the NWHL? The National Women's Hockey League is the first professional league to pay women to play hockey. The 2015-16 season marks the inaugural campaign for this four team organization and has been extensively covered worldwide.
This game features several Olympic-level players including silver medalists Kelli Stack and Molly Engstrom.
Game Details: Shiann Darkangelo and Kelly Babstock each had two goals and Nicole Stock made 25 saves during the last meeting between these clubs on Sunday. New York goaltender Nana Fujimoto was pulled in the third after the Whale took a 4-0 lead and a player altercation has led to one-game suspensions for Micaela Long (late, high hit nearly six seconds after the whistle) and Elena Orlando (leaving the bench to take part in an altercation).
Darkangelo and teammate Kaleigh Fratkin are the only two NWHL players to have been named First Star twice. Fratkin is tied for second in the league with 14 points. This marks the first game the Whale have played in Connecticut away from Chelsea Piers.
NWHL STANDINGS:
Connecticut: 9-1-0, 18 points
Boston: 7-3-1, 15 points
New York 3-6-1, 7 points,
Buffalo: 2-7-2, 6 points
