Boston Pride News Release
Boston - Kaleigh Fratkin of Burnaby, British Columbia, who is the highest-scoring defender in league history and the reigning NWHL Defender of the Year, will be back with the Boston Pride in the league's sixth season. Fratkin joins McKenna Brand, Lexie Laing, and Christina Putigna as the members of the 24-1 Pride to sign contracts for 2020-21.
"It's wild to think I'm entering my sixth season in the NWHL and another year of pro hockey with the Pride," said Fratkin. "The organization is first-class at every level, with so many people working hard behind-the-scene to give us every opportunity to succeed. I can't wait to play another season and get that Isobel Cup!"
Fratkin led all Pride defenders in scoring in 2019-20, going 3-20-23 in 24 games. She also led her team with a +33 plus/minus. While representing Team Packer in the 2020 NWHL All-Star Skills Challenge, Fratkin won the Slalom Hardest Shot Competition with a 76 MPH slap shot. She had a three-point game in the Isobel Cup Semifinal against the Connecticut Whale on March 8, 2020.
In her five seasons in the league, the original NWHLer has 11 goals and 49 assists for 60 points in 87 games with the Pride, Riveters and Whale.
Fratkin played collegiately at Boston University, where she amassed 66 points in 151 games. She was a Hockey East First-Team All Star and was selected to the Hockey East All-Tournament Team in her senior season in 2013-14. She won the Clarkson Cup with the Boston Blades of the CWHL in 2015, a 2015 gold medal with Team Canada U-22 development team at Nations Cup, and a silver medal with Team Canada at the 2009 IIHF U-18 Women's World Championship.
"Fratty was one of our MVPs this season, so we're so pumped she's returning," said Boston head coach Paul Mara. "She's a leader and she's relentless. Sometimes I feel bad for our players going up against her in practice because Fratty never lets up. Can't imagine what it's like for our opponents."
In addition to playing in the NWHL, Fratkin works in marketing for Under Armour.
