Metropolitan Riveters News Release

For women's hockey on Long Island, it will be an historic night of firsts as the Metropolitan Riveters play a preseason game against Long Island University on Sept. 28 at 7:45 pm at Iceworks in Syosset, NY.

The game will mark the NWHL's debut on Long Island, and will be the first-ever game on Long Island featuring a Division I NCAA team.

"We're excited to show all the young girls playing on Long Island that their dreams can come true - playing on a college team locally and becoming a pro hockey player," said Cailey Hutchison, the Riveters' rookie forward who was raised in nearby Hicksville. "For me, playing my first professional game at the same rink I grew up falling in love with hockey will be surreal."

LIU is the first university to sponsor Division I women's hockey in the New York City area. Former Connecticut Whale and University of New Hampshire star Sam Faber, who grew up on Long Island, is an assistant coach of LIU.

"It's going to be a really special feeling to be behind the bench in my first game with LIU coaching against the team that was my rival the first three years of the NWHL," said Faber. "More importantly, I'm happy for the girls on our team at LIU. This will be a great experience for them to see what the NWHL is all about. It's awesome that they will share the ice with the dedicated, hardworking and talented women that make up the league.

"I think back to my college days, and I never got the opportunity to play against professionals, and it just shows how much our sport has grown over the last few years. It's going to be pretty cool for girls' hockey on Long Island in general. Definitely will be a night I'll always remember."

Admission will be free for all fans.
