NWFA Partners with Champion

Published on January 30, 2003 under National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release

Nashville, TN (January 28, 2003) - Now that women's full contact football has emerged as a big-time sport, the National Women's Football Association (NWFA) is going prime-time with its marketing partnerships. The Nashville-based league announced today it has inked a three-year deal with sports and entertainment marketing firm Champion Management LLC to serve as its exclusive sponsorship representative.

The NWFA, which has grown from a single team in August 2000 to 30 teams nationwide while gearing up for the 2003 season, is now one of the hottest tickets in sports. The league recently signed a five-year television deal, its Web site (www.womensfootballcentral.com) receives more than two million hits per month, and media attention has grown exponentially. Champion Management will tap into the popularity of the sport in securing sponsorships and other endorsements for the league.

"We're very pleased to bring Champion Management aboard as our official sponsorship representative," said Catherine Masters, CEO of the NWFA. "The league is prepared to offer tremendous value to a select group of companies, and we're confident that Ladd Biro and his team will help us strike the right deals."

Because the NWFA is a centrally run organization, national sponsors can be featured prominently on both a league-wide and local team level. At the Presenting Sponsor level, entitlements include exposure in all league broadcast and print advertising and promotional materials, and rights to use NWFA players, coaches and staff for promotional purposes. The sponsor's logo will appear on players' jerseys and staff uniforms, while banners and other signage will be posted at all 240 league-wide games. Benefits also include title sponsorship of the league's annual Championship Game; branding on playoff and championship trophies, tickets and merchandise; and sponsorship of the league's Girls of the Gridiron Clinics, held in 30 cities across the country for girls ages 8 and older.

"This is the perfect time to jump on the NWFA bandwagon," said Ladd Biro, president of Dallas-based Champion Management. "The league has successfully managed through the always-difficult start-up hurdles, built a loyal fan base in 30 markets, and demonstrated they know how to play the game. Women's football is poised for explosive growth, and I can think of plenty of savvy marketers who will appreciate the opportunity presented by the NWFA for their brands."

Champion Management is now seeking presenting and official sponsorships for the NWFA's 2003-05 seasons. In addition, the agency will be seeking endorsement opportunities with sponsors and other companies for some of the league's emerging stars.

"America is getting ready to see some impressive female athletes play a new style of football," said Biro, "and a few truly marketable stars have already begun to emerge. We're looking forward to making names like Donna Wilkinson (RB, DC Divas), Tammy Lowrey-Ridgley (DB/LB, Pensacola Power) Angela Griffin (RB, Detroit Demolition), household words during the 2003 season."
