
NWFA Names Top Official
January 30, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release
The National Women's Football Association has appointed Don Shurtleff Supervisor of Officials. He will be working with coaches and owners with concerns about officials and their calls. He will also work with officials for the knowledge of rules and the consistency ratings. Any problems or concerns from team owners regarding officiating during games will be directed to him. Shurtleff will also develop a game day report for all officials of the league so that evaluations may be made on many levels.
Shurtleff brings to the league impressive credentials. He's been a football official for over 30 years working high and college ball and served as the Associate Commissioner of football officials for 46 high schools in Southeastern Massachusetts He has also worked with assigning football officials to semipro football teams. In addition to his credentials in football, Shurtleff has a wide range of experience in other sports including over 14 years of softball officiating working high school and college ball and serving as the Commissioner of Softball for 41 high schools. And, if that wasn't enough, he's also been an Ice Hockey official for 25 years and a basketball official for over 11 years.
"Our league has grown so big that the officiating must be first class and Don will help us a great deal in that area. We are delighted to have someone with his background and expertise work with the league and all of its teams," states league CEO, Catherine Masters.
