NWFA Kickoff a Success
April 14, 2003 - National Women's Football Association (NWFA) News Release
Nashville, TN-The National Women's Football Association started off its 3rd season with a rousing success in 13 markets.
The action was hot and heavy with some bone crushing tackles and some heart stopping catches and touchdowns. And, not only were there some tight games, there was one game, the Locomotion and Assault which went into overtime.
And, if that didn't have the fans in the stands getting hoarse from cheering, then the DOUBLE OVERTIME game between the KC Krunch and the St. Louis Slam did it. This hard fought battle was won by the Krunch. Not bad for a couple of newly established expansion teams!
For a complete list of scores from the NWFA's week 1, please go the "schedules" page at the league's website: wwww.womensfootballassociation.com.
This coming weekend games include some great match-ups with the arch rivals Baltimore Burn traveling across the beltway to play the DC Divas at the Divas home field. In another great rivalry, the Detroit Demolition travels to the SW Michigan Jags. The Demolition, which last year won the league championship has new owners and is working hard to have a repeat season.
In addition to the games above, other action will see the Evansville Express (a 2004 expansion team) taking on the Kansas City Krunch, the Maine Freeze playing against last year's runner up, the Mass Mutiny, the Connecticut Crush going head to head against the Rochester Raptors, the Atlanta Leopards traveling to Huntsville to take on the Alabama Renegades, the Chattanooga Locomotion going to play the Knoxville Summit, the Tennessee Venom traveling across the state line and playing the Asheville Assault, the St. Louis Slam coming to Tennessee to take on the Nashville Dream, the Cleveland Fusion traveling to Toledo to play the Spitfire, the Pittsburgh Passion going to Columbus to take on the Flames, the New Orleans Spice going up against the powerful Pensacola Power and the Panama City Beach Rumble blowing in to battle the Biloxi Herricanes. All games begin at 7PM.
The National Women's Football Association has 36 teams and a website that receives over 2 million hits per month. For additional information on the NWFA, please call (615) 860-4084 or email footballmedia@cs.com.
