Greeneville Astros News Release

Greeneville, TN - The Greeneville Astros (24-22) played at home against the Bristol Pirates (14-30) in the final outing of their three game series in front of a crowd of 1,008 fans. The Pirates picked up their fourteenth win of the year by a score of 7-4. The slow paced, 2 hour and 45 minute game seemed to favor the away team as Bristol racked up a total of fifteen hits on the night.

The Pirates scored once in the top of both the first and second innings, and they did not surrender the lead until two runs scored on a Cesar Carrasco double in the bottom of the fifth inning to give the Astros a 4-2 lead. The Pirates answered back in the top of the sixth by pushing across four runs capped off by Tomas Morales' two run single giving them the lead and ultimately, the win.

Greeneville's second baseman, Antonio Nunez performed well hitting two doubles on the night with one run batted in while newcomer Edwin Medina scored twice and stole two bases. Bristol's designated hitter Jerrick Suiter and catcher Tomas Morales both had doubles with two runs batted in.

The Pirates right hander, Michael Clemens came on to relieve in the bottom of the sixth and gave up no runs over the final three innings while striking out three batters to give him his third save on the year. Bristol's Dan Urbina gave up three runs on three hits over three innings, but managed to get the win.

Tonight's loss puts the Astros at 6-3 against the Pirates, but they remain in second place in the Appalachian League West behind the Elizabethton Twins by a two game deficit. The Astros have managed to win nine of their last thirteen games, and despite losing two of their last three contests, look to get back to their winning ways during the three game road series against the Pulaski Mariners starting Thursday evening.

The Greeneville Astros will return home to Pioneer Park on Sunday, August 10 at 6:00 PM for the first of a three game series against the Burlington Royals.
