Nunez, Dipietro American Association Players of the Week

DURHAM, NC - The American Association of Independent Professional Baseball announced today that Lincoln Saltdogs OF Argelis Nunez and Shreveport-Bossier Captains LHP Ryan DiPietro (pictured) have been named the Pointstreak Batter and Pitcher of the Week. The selection was made by Pointstreak, the official statistician of the American Association.
Nunez clubbed five home runs and drove in 13 runs as the Saltdogs' cleanup hitter. The power surge gave Nunez 15 home runs (T-4th in the league) and 55 RBI (7th in the league) on the season. In addition, he improved his batting average to .295 on the season to go with a .516 slugging percentage. Nunez was previously named the league's Player of the Week on May 30th.
DiPietro made two starts for the Captains and earned a pair of victories, surrendering just three earned runs in 16 innings of work for a 1.69 ERA. In a 6-1 win over Pensacola Monday, DiPietro went the distance, striking out four and allowing only six baserunners. Opponents batted just .242 against the Berlin, CT resident this past week. He is 7-1 with a 3.82 ERA on the season, with 49 strikeouts in 61 1/3 innings. Last Wednesday, DiPietro was named to the South Division All-Star Team as an injury replacement.
